Find volunteer opportunities on Idealist
Idealist offers a database of volunteer opportunities where you can search for opportunities appropriate for kids 18 years and younger. Just check the box that corresponds to the age of your students. Each volunteer opportunity is reviewed by an Idealist staff member before it is posted to ensure that the opportunity is age appropriate.
You can search our database by entering in your geographic location, your students' interests, or a keyword that describes the type of opportunity they are looking for. Search results will contain either a phone number or an email address of the host organization so that you can contact them for more information. Click here to start your search.

Finding nonprofit organizations
You may decide that you would like to go straight to the source and locate specific nonprofit organizations in your community in order to find volunteer opportunities.
On Idealist, you can search for nonprofit organizations whose work matches the interests of your students. For example, a search of the Idealist nonprofit database for organizations in Portland, Oregon with the area of focus specified as "environment" provided a list of 60 organizations with which one could work.
Try a search for organizations in your community.
